The rebalance of the natural world is pretty much impossible without keystone species such as lynx. The video below discusses some of the problems that returning lynx to Britain could resolve, one being the numbers of deer and the impact they have on reforestation, natural or human.
In recent years, the numbers of deer in Britain have skyrocketed, this is partly due to the artificially high stocked managed estates for recreational hunting and the complete lack of a natural predator species in Britain. Reintroducing a natural predator would have a positive impact on biodiversity and natural tree regeneration, by altering the habits of prey such as deer.
The debate in Britain continues to focus on the possible problems of reintroducing key predator species (wolves, bears and lynxes) missing in the UK for hundreds of years. Of these three species returning the solitary lynx to the UK is most definitely the least controversial.
